At the World Airport Awards held March 15 at the Passenger Terminal Expo in Amsterdam, LaGuardia Terminal B earned two spectacular accolades from leading global airport rating firm, Skytrax.

Based on feedback from thousands of passengers surveyed internationally, Terminal B was awarded Best New Airport Terminal in the world, and additionally became the first airport terminal in North America to earn the highest global 5-Star Rating from Skytrax, joining just 21 other airports and terminals worldwide to achieve this ranking.

On hand to accept the awards in Amsterdam were Frank Scremin, CEO of LaGuardia Gateway Partners (LGP), Derek Thielmann, Vantage’s Vice President of Design and Construction, and Jamie Haviaris, LGP’s Chief Technical Officer. Representing the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey was Chief Operating Officer, Huntley Lawrence.

These global accolades are a resounding testament to the talent and hard work of Vantage’s accomplished team at LGP, which transformed a linchpin of the U.S. aviation system, built a new state-of-the-art terminal while operating the existing facility with minimal disruption, delivered the project on budget and on time in July 2022 and is creating an exceptional guest experience, every day.

Many employees from across the Vantage network have contributed to the challenge of taking LaGuardia Terminal B from “worst to first” since the $5.1 billion project broke ground and Vantage assumed operations of the original 1968 terminal in 2016.

The World Airport Awards are highly regarded as an independent quality benchmark for the world airport industry, assessing customer service and facilities across more than 550 airports, through passenger surveys that cover every factor from check-in and security, to comfort, ambiance, and choices for shopping and dining.

Separately the 5-Star Rating is its most prestigious mark of quality achievement and a global benchmark of airport excellence, awarded following detailed audit analysis and assessment of an airport’s product and front-line service standards.
